Carbon fiber Vrod fuel cell cover modification

by Editor on 02/24/21

I wanted to do a follow up on the carbon fiber fuel cell side covers on our 2003 Harley Davidson Vrod. If you have removed the stock 3.7 fuel cell and replaced it with the Unlimited Engineering 5.3 gallon tank there will a couple of things you'll need to know. When using the UE tank the ignition has been relocated, using these MDI carbon fiber covers will leave a hole where that cylinder would go. I ended up using a piece of handlebar grip and end cap to cover it as seen in the picture below. This side fit into place perfectly with no modifications needed for fitment.

On the other side I had to dremal off some material of the carbon fiber cover to get it into place because the UE tank takes up more space in that area of the triangle. I may have removed a little too much so I had to use some 3M two sided weather stripping tape to secure it into place, undetectable when mounted on bike.
