VRSCSE CVO VROD coolant leak

by Editor on 03/30/22

When I got this bike in November I noticed the smell of coolant when it was running, looked through the gap by the side cover and saw there was some in there so went for an hour and half ride. Well probably about half that time was stopping and taking pictures...
Got back home and put it away for the winter.

Throughout the winter I've been restoring a 2003 Vrod and wanted to get that finished before starting to look at the CVO. I topped up the rad over flow bottle, added some in the rad, checked the rad cap, all the clamps then pulled it out into the driveway yesterday. Started it up and still smelt coolant... Damn, was hoping for an easy fix. As the bike engine warmed up everything looked good but just before the fans kicked on I noticed coolant dripping from the bottom left onto the ground. Turned off the bike, did a little swearing then wheeled it back into the garage. Grabbed a flashlight and saw the coolant on the front side of the fins, my first thought was I need a new rad. (more swearing) Then I noticed condensation on the blue paint of the frame, shined the flashlight up and into the bike and found the cause of the leak. Thank goodness this is just a hose problem and not a rad corrosion issue do to electrolysis.
